Bendir or frame drum – The bendir, a frame drum, is the most common instrument used throughout North Africa. It consists of a shallow, round frame with a drumhead, similar to tambourine. Unlike the tambourine, however, it has no jingles and comes in vastly different sizes. The Bendir is held vertically and played with the hand.
